What this policy covers

This page explains what data we collect, how we use it, and the third-party services that may process data when you use this site. By using this site, you consent to this policy and any service-specific terms referenced below.

Information we collect

1) Information you provide

  • Comments (Disqus): If you comment using Disqus, Disqus collects information needed to operate the commenting platform (account details, IP address, cookies). Your comment content is public. See Third-party services below.
  • Email: If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you include in the message.

2) Information collected automatically

  • Logs & basic device info: When you visit, your browser automatically sends data like IP address, user-agent, referrer, and pages visited. Our static hosting (GitHub Pages) and CDNs may log this for security/diagnostics.
  • Cookies & similar tech: Used for analytics, ads, and to make embedded features work. See Cookies below.

How we use information

  • Site operation & security (hosting/CDNs, bot and abuse prevention)
  • Analytics & performance (understanding which pages are used and improving content)
  • Advertising (serving ads and measuring their effectiveness)
  • Communication (responding to your messages)

We retain only what we reasonably need for these purposes. Third-party services may have their own retention settings.

Cookies

Types of cookies we use

  • Strictly necessary: basic site delivery and security (may be set by hosting/CDNs).
  • Analytics: to understand usage (Google Analytics).
  • Advertising: to show and measure ads (Google AdSense).
  • Functional/Embedded: for comments (Disqus) or externally loaded assets.

Your choices

Most browsers let you block or delete cookies. You can also manage ad personalization here:

If you’re visiting from the EEA/UK or where consent is required, we rely on your consent for non-essential cookies (e.g., personalized ads). If consent isn’t granted, ads may be non-personalized.

Third-party services we use

Google Analytics (GA4) via gtag

We use Google Analytics to measure traffic and usage patterns. Google may set cookies and receive your IP address and device info. Learn more: https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites and https://policies.google.com/privacy.
You can opt out with Ads Settings (above) or with Google’s opt-out tools.

Google AdSense (Ads)

We display Google ads. Google may use cookies and identifiers to serve and measure ads, including interest-based ads. See: https://policies.google.com/technologies/ads. You can manage ad personalization at the links in Your choices.

Google Tag Manager (GTM)

We use GTM to manage tags (like Analytics/Ads). GTM itself doesn’t collect identifiable data beyond what’s necessary to load tags. See: https://policies.google.com/privacy.

Google Search Console

Used to verify site ownership and monitor search performance. It does not set cookies for regular visitors. See: https://policies.google.com/privacy.

Disqus (Comments)

Our comments are powered by Disqus. If you interact with comments, Disqus may collect data and set cookies. Your comment content is public. See Disqus’ privacy policy: https://help.disqus.com/en/articles/1717103-disqus-privacy-policy.

Fonts & CDNs (static assets)

We may load fonts or scripts from third-party CDNs (e.g., Google Fonts, cdnjs, jsDelivr). When those files load, your IP address and browser details are visible to the CDN. See the providers’ policies (e.g., Google Fonts: https://policies.google.com/privacy).

Do Not Track

Some browsers offer “Do Not Track” (DNT). Many services do not universally respond to DNT signals today. Where a provider supports it, we’ll respect it; otherwise please use the opt-outs listed above or your browser’s cookie controls.

Data sharing & international transfers

We do not sell personal information. We share data with service providers listed above to operate the site. These providers may process data in multiple countries (including the United States). Where required, appropriate safeguards (such as Standard Contractual Clauses) are used by those providers.

Your rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict certain processing of your data. To make a request, email us at michal@techguywithabeard.com. We may need to verify your identity and we’ll respond as required by applicable law.

Children’s privacy

This site is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures to protect information. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.

Changes to this policy

We may update this page from time to time. When we post changes, we’ll update the “Last updated” date at the top. If changes are material, we may provide additional notice.
